Things to see in Kuala Lumpur

Petronas Twin Towers
An icon of the Kuala Lumpur skyline, the Petronas Twin Towers stand over 450 metres high with a total of 88 stories. When completed in 1996, the building was the tallest in the world and held the title for over 8 years.
The famous two story Skybridge that connects the two towers can be visited, as well as the observation deck, and offers spectacular views over the city both during the day and in the evening.
Insider’s Tip: Although well worth the visit, it is good to note that queues can be lengthy and it is not open on Mondays.
Lake Symphony
At the base of the Petronas Towers, located in KLCC Park, is Kuala Lumpur’s water and light show known as Lake Symphony. With a schedule including a midday show as well as two in the evening, it provides a lovely excuse to wander the park containing waterfalls, pools, sculptures, and children’s play areas.
Sultan Abdul Samad Building
A fantastic example of architecture, the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, named after the reigning Sultan at the time construction began in 1897, has now been listed on the National Heritage List as a structure of significance to Malaysia. Although beautiful during the day, at night it positively glows as the lights illuminate the round turrets and central clocktower.
Things to Do in Kuala Lumpur

Batu Caves
Consisting of 3 major caves and several smaller caves, the Batu Caves are a must-see on any Kuala Lumpur itinerary! An important religious landmark of the Hindus, the caves and the 100 year old temple that is associated with its feature idols and status of the Hindu faith.
The largest and most popular of the cave system, Cathedral Cave lives up to its name with a wide open cavern and vaulted ceilings over 100 metres above. A focal point for the religious observings, the vast expanse houses several Hindu shrines that are spectacular to view.
Insider’s Tip: During the Thaipusam Festival, thousands of Hindus end their pilgrimage in Cathedral Cavern and are often joined by many others. Held usually in late January, the celebration can reach numbers of over one million visitors!
Jalan Alor
It is said that to truly experience the culture of a city, you must eat where the locals eat. Filled with seafood restaurants and street hawkers, Jalan Alor is a crazy and hectic, immerse-yourself-head-first experience that can’t be missed.
Not on the regular tourist route, this street is the cultural heart of the city and stands in stark contrast to the trendy areas of Jalan Bukit Bintang and Changkat Bukit Bintang. You will come for the food but be spellbound by the atmosphere as locals weave their way through the loud noises, the fanned flames of grills, and the exotic smells.
Insider’s Tip: Take a walking day tour of this amazing area to get the most out of it! Most menus are not in English so having a local guide to help steer you towards the highlights is invaluable.
Perdana Botanical Gardens
Located to the west of the city centre, the Perdana Botanical Gardens are an excellent example of tropical flora interspersed with manicured displays. More commonly known by its original name, Lake Gardens, this green area stretches over 173 acres and offers lovely shaded areas that are a welcome relief during the hot midday hours.
Within its boundaries also lies the KL Butterfly Park and KL Bird Park where visitors can walk amongst over 3000 birds of over 200 species from around the world. Easily outdoing its more famous neighbour in Singapore in both size and diversity, it is a must for any photographer interested in wildlife as the environment of free-flight with birds accustomed to being around humans offers spectacular opportunities.
